Eheim Feed-Air Automatic Feeder PDF Print E-mail
Everyone needs an automatic aquarium fish feeder. This is a great device for those of you who want to save time or maybe have fish that need constant feeding.

For me it was a little bit of both. I have a group of Anthias in my tank and as you may know Anthias like to be fed small amounts of food through out the day. To keep these active reef inhabitants well fed an Automatic Fish Feeder was absolutely necessary.
Anthias aren't the only fish that require constant feedings. Your African Cichlids, or any other small active fish like to feed constantly. With an automatic fish feeder you will be feeding either dry flake or pellets. I actually like to break and grind mine up a bit so there are different sizes of food being fed. I also like to have various types and brands such as HBH, Hikari and even Cyclopeeze mixed in. That way I know that my fish and inhabitants are getting all the vitamins and nutrition that they need.

I originally tried to save some money and bought another unit. Read my review of the Nutrifin ProFeed, but that unit was not very good.

So instead of wasting more money I decided to go with a brand that I know makes quality products as well as a unit that should last.

I settled on the Eheim Feed-Air Automatic Aquarium Fish Feeder.

This unit has a number of excellent features. Firstly the base is rather heavy with rubber feet. This is important as it means it will stay steady on your tank hood or above your sump. With small vibrations coming from your water or air pumps it won't move around. It also won't tip over and fall in your tank.

Also unlike a lot of the cheaper units, it can be programmed for multiple feedings at different times of the day. Some cheaper Automatic feeders only feed twice a day at 12 hour intervals. Not with the Eheim. Being fully digital you can have precise control over the feedings. There is even a large button to trigger manual feedings.

The Feed-Air part you were probably wondering about. The motor mechanism is attached to a shaft and an impeller much like a powerhead. This draws air into the unit to help reduce moisture and keep your food dry. I have had no problems with food spoiling or clumping together so it must work.

I like to do lots of small feedings so I keep the food amount on the lowest possible setting. I hit the manual feed in the morning when I check my tank, and than have 2 separate feedings through the day. In the evening I like to hit the manual feed one more time. I than have an automatic feed set for the middle of the night. We don't want to neglect all our corals, and other critters in Live rock and Live sand that feed at night do we?

I highly recommend this Eheim product. It's effective and durable like all Eheim products I have ever tested. It doesn't cost much to make sure your fish and corals are being well fed.
